Kajang, Malaysia, 25 September 2020 – The New Car Assessment Program for Southeast Asian Countries (ASEAN NCAP) has officially appointed IDIADA as the sole and exclusive laboratory in Europe and the United States to conduct ASEAN NCAP testing for new vehicles aimed at the Southeast Asian region.
IDIADA’s extensive experience, with over 20 years working in the field of ADAS, passive and active safety testing activities related to worldwide standards, has been key for the agreement to come to fruition.
IDIADA’s headquarters near Barcelona in Spain is already an officially accredited Euro NCAP laboratory, while IDIADA’s safety lab in California, USA, holds a contract to conduct official U.S. NCAP testing.
IDIADA’s commitment to support the development of safer vehicles is global. Thus, this new accreditation also reflects their commitment towards the ASEAN region, where IDIADA is established in Malaysia and Thailand.
The agreement was made effective on 10th August 2020 through a Memorandum of Understanding signed by ASEAN NCAP’s Secretary-General, (Ir. Ts. Dr.) Adjunct Prof. Khairil Anwar Abu Kassim, IDIADA’s Director for Body & Passive Safety, Joaquim Huguet and IDIADA USA Director, Carlos García.
About ASEAN NCAP
The New Car Assessment Program for Southeast Asian Countries (ASEAN NCAP), the ninth NCAP program in the world, is a program that was formed in 2011 based on a collaborative effort between the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS) and Global New Car Assessment Programme (Global NCAP). It was formed with the mutual objectives to enhance safety standards, raise consumer awareness and encourage the production of safer vehicles in the South East Asian region. As part of our effort to be in line with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, we strive for all vehicles produced and sold for the ASEAN market to meet the appropriate safety standards.
