ATB004: Test Procedures and Evaluation Methods for Rear Cross Traffic Collision Avoidance System

KAJANG, MALAYSIA, 31 July 2026 – The New Car Assessment Program for Southeast Asian Countries (ASEAN NCAP) has published ASEAN NCAP Technical Bulletin (ATB 004): Test Procedures and Evaluation Methods for Rear Cross Traffic Collision Avoidance Systems, introducing a standardized assessment methodology for Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) and Rear Cross Traffic Braking (RCTB) technologies under the ASEAN NCAP 2026–2030 Protocol. The Technical Bulletin establishes harmonised test procedures, evaluation criteria, and scoring methods for systems designed to assist drivers in avoiding collisions with approaching vehicles and motorcycles while reversing.

The assessment covers both Car Rear Crossing (CRC) and Motorcycle Rear Crossing (MRC) scenarios, providing consistent and repeatable test procedures and performance requirements across all vehicle evaluations. It also includes the evaluation of automatic braking performance for vehicles equipped with RCTB, further encouraging the development and adoption of advanced reversing safety technologies.

The ATB 004: Test Procedures and Evaluation Methodsfor Rear Cross Traffic Collision Avoidance Systems (Version 1.0) is effective from 31 July 2026 and will serve as the official reference for the assessment of Rear Cross Traffic Collision Avoidance Systems under the ASEAN NCAP 2026–2030 Protocol. This publication represents another important milestone in ASEAN NCAP's commitment to improving vehicle safety and reducing reversing collisions involving passenger vehicles and motorcyclists across the ASEAN region.
