Kajang, Malaysia, 9 July 2026 – The New Car Assessment Program for Southeast Asian Countries (ASEAN NCAP) has introduced the kiDS Child Presence Detection
Subject (CPD-DS3) as the standardized reference surrogate for the
assessment of Child Presence Detection (CPD) systems under the ASEAN NCAP
2026–2030 Protocol. This enhancement supports the evaluation of direct-sensing
CPD technologies that detect the presence of a child left inside a vehicle
using physiological indicators such as respiration, body movement, and thermal
signatures.
The adoption of the CPD-DS3 provides a
consistent and repeatable assessment method across all vehicle evaluations.
Designed to simulate a sleeping infant of up to 12 months old, the surrogate
enables ASEAN NCAP to assess CPD system performance under the most challenging
test conditions, ensuring greater transparency and comparability between
vehicle models.
The introduction of this standardized
assessment tool marks another important milestone in ASEAN NCAP's commitment to
improving child occupant safety and encouraging the development of advanced
vehicle safety technologies. The ATB 003: ASEAN NCAP Child Presence Detection (CPD)Assessment – kiDS CPD-DS3 Specification Version 1.0 is effective from July
2026 and will serve as the reference surrogate for all ASEAN NCAP CPD
assessments under the current protocol. While the kiDS CPD-DS3 is the
adopted reference surrogate for the ASEAN NCAP 2026–2030 Protocol, ASEAN NCAP
remains open to the consideration of other technically validated CPD surrogate
devices in future protocol developments, subject to technical evaluation and
harmonisation.
